Thesis: ESL classes are important, but could be more important if they provided education for ESL students that would go beyond learning basic language skills, and furnished the opportunity of learning culture as well as help with assimilating with a new society.
I chose English as a Second Language as my subject because it makes a very important part of my own educational experience. I wished that ESL classes prepared me to better communicate academically as well as socially. It is an issue for many emigrants. Many non-native speakers never go beyond the basic use of a second language and without help, close themselves in their own ethnic communities.
This seems like it would be a good topic for you and has made a huge impact on your educational career. One thing I may suggest is in your thesis statement altering the beginning a little. I would not say important twice because you could always start off in your introductory paragraph about how ESL classes are important to begin with. You might want to try the word improve instead? It sounds like that from your perspective you want to write about how you would be able to learn and understand english better if the ESL classes were more advanced.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic. I believe that many People who are from this country do not realize the difficulties that others who are not born in here have to face. There is a young lady in one of my other classes who has expressed the same sentiments as you have. She said it is hard not only trying to understand the work, but also trying to find someone to become a study buddy with. she said she wanted to quit because she could not believe how mean people in the acadimic arena are. I know that you will do very welland maybe this topic will attract the interest of others.
